Finland for foreigners What do the Finns do for a living?
The Finnish kids start school the year they'll be seven years old. Before that they can go to pre-school and before that to a kindergarten but that is not compulsory. The kids first attend six years in lower levels at the comprehensive school and after that three years in upper levels. We don't have any general exams when you finish the comprehensive school. After comprehensive school you can apply to upper secondary school (in Finnish "lukio") or to a vocational school. In both of these schools you often study for three years and after three years in an upper secondary school you're able to take the Matriculation exam.
Our school is situated near the city centre and you can either walk or take a tram. The school's address is: Unionsgatan 2 If you've taken the Matriculation exam you're able to apply to University. Those who have studied in a vocational school can start working or studying more. There are thousands of things you can study in Finland. You can study the same things people study all around the world.
When it comes to work, we have got the jobs that people have all around the world. In someplaces people in Finland have mink and fox farms. Groups of young activists are against it and sometimes let the minks out, but the minks can't survive in the nature and die. But we do have one speciality, reindeer breeding in Lapland. |
